MLS stands for Multi-Layer Steel. Cometic MLS headgaskets are comprised of three layers of stainless steel. Cometic uses Stainless steel for increased strength, it's ability to rebound and corrosion resistance.Cometic MLS headgaskets reduce bore distortion and withstand extreme cylinder pressures.The outer layers of the Cometic headgaskets are embossed and coated on both sides with a flouroelastomer rubber based material (Viton) designed to meet the demands of a variety of harsh sealing environments, load conditions and surface finishes. The Cometic headgaskets, Viton coating is heat resistant to 2500C or 4820F. The center or shim layer of the headgaskets are comprised of an uncoated Stainless Steel layer, which can be varied to accommodate multiple thickness requirements. The Cometic MLS headgaskets are ideal for both aluminum heads to cast iron blocks and aluminum heads to aluminum blocks.

The composition of Cometic MLS headgaskets will also withstand the shearing forces created by aluminum heads on cast iron blocks. No re-torque is necessary. By design the Cometic MLS headgaskets promotes an even torque load across the sealing surface allowing for measurable reduced bore distortion.All Cometic MLS headgaskets are coated with a .001" thick viton rubber that is bonded to the outer stainless steel layers. Adding an additional sealer can hinder the performance of Cometic MLS headgaskets.

A surface finish of 50 RA (roughness average) or finer, is recommended for a proper gasket seal. Anything rougher may conflict with the gasket design.
