Acura TL AEM's Adjustable Fuel-Pressure Regulator is constructed of 6061 T-6 billet aluminum and is capable of supporting enough fuel flow for engines in excess of 1000 horsepower. Only AEM regulators have Patented replaceable discharge ports which allows the user to tailor the fuel-pressure regulator and output of ANY fuel pump, whether it be the stock unit or a high-flow aftermarket pump. The base of the regulator is tapped to accept the stock hose barb fitting or an AN fitting. Minor car problems are usually a result of an abnormal Fuel-pressure regulator conditions in the fuel system. A high fuel-pressure reading can result in heavy emissions, due to a high running engine. The problems arising out of this situation can be as varied as misfiring, clogging of system, racing and so on. On the other hand, a low fuel-pressure in the fuel-pressure regulator may cause a delayed start or no start, misfiring and abrupt ignition.
Correct fuel-pressure and fuel-pressure regulator operation is essential for your car's engine to operate properly. Many engine run-ability problems can be related to a weak or failing fuel pump or faulty fuel-pressure regulator. Problems can range from hard cold engine starting, low power and stalling while driving.
Diagnosing your fuel system can be frustrating enough, but turn the irritation level up a few notches if you've been through it from top to bottom and still don't know where the problem lies. If you suspect a fuel-pressure regulator isn't holding its own but can't find anything wrong with it, try checking out the vacuum line that goes to the fuel-pressure regulator. A leak can appear in the vacuum port of the fuel-pressure regulator and cause it to lose fuel and fuel-pressure through the vacuum hose.
An easy way to test for a fuel-pressure regulator leak in the vacuum side is to replace the vacuum line going into the fuel-pressure regulator with a length of clear tubing. Now you'll be able to see a leak as it happens. It will most likely show failure when your vacuum is at its lowest point, as in during acceleration.
Fuel-pressure regulator problems are amongst the easiest ones to detect. It is very essential to keep fuel-pressure in the proper operating region for a longer and smooth engine life. So, the next time you sense a slight glitch or hiccup with the working of the engine, it is time for some serious diagnosis of your Acura TL.
